William Heath
teaches courses in American and European literature and creative writing. He is
also the adviser of Lighted Corners, the College literary magazine. He
has published a book of poetry, The Walking Man, and essays on Melville,
Twain, Hawthorne, and William Styron. Dr. Heath's
award-winning novel, The Children Bob Moses Led,
based on the civil rights "Freedom Summer"
of 1964, was published in 1995 (paperback. "It is the job of the teachers," he says,
"to challenge complacent assumptions...and open the mind, so that our full
mental powers are employed to see the world clearly in all its mystery
and beauty." Dr. Heath earned his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve and
completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Spain.
