Washington, D. C . Tour & Sandy Point State Park Dinner

Travel to Washington, D.C. from 2003 Envirothon site via Coach Bus.

Start Tour of Washington on Site Seeing Tours, Inc.

The scenic tour of Washington D.C. will take you through downtown Washington and to several neighborhoods. We will stop at the White House to take pictures of the exterior unless confirmation has been received for a visit.

The tour will drive up Pennsylvania Avenue and enroute pass Ford's Theatre, Petersen House, FBI Building, National Archives, National Gallery of Art, and the future site of the Newseum and the Canadian Embassy.

On Capitol Hill you will see the outside of the U.S. Capitol Building, Supreme Court, Library of Congress and Senate and House Office Buildings. You will enjoy the view of the West Front of the Capitol, which is where the president takes the oath of office. See the National Mall, the 2.2 mile stretch from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. This is the site of the large outdoor gatherings in the city and where many of the Smithsonian Museums are located.

Drive by the Washington Monument, Holocaust Museum, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Tidal Basin, George Mason, Jefferson, FDR Memorials, Korean Memorials and the future site of the World War II Memorial and King Memorials.

We will stop and visit the Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to Women.

The tour will then travel across the Arlington Memorial Bridge for a panoramic view of the Washington National Cathedral, the sixth largest cathedral in the world. President Wilson, Helen Keller and her two teachers are interred in this Protestant Episcopal Church. In the distance you will be able to see Arlington House, the official memorial to Robert E. Lee on the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery. The tour will then drive around the Iwo Jima Memorial which has been dedicated to the U.S. Marines.

Drive to the Foggy Bottom neighborhood to see the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Watergate Complex and George Washington University. The Kennedy Center is our national memorial to a slain president and is where the Kennedy Center Honors takes place.

The tour ends at the Air & Space Museum.

After Touring our Nation's Capitol, the Envirothon Group will board their Coach Busses to travel to the Annapolis region and Sandy Point State Park. There, a sampling of various Maryland foods will highlight the evening meal.

Sandy Point State Park

This 786 acre park on the Chesapeake Bay is celebrating 50 years. Opened on June 25, 1952, the park offers an array of recreational activities. These include swimming, fishing, crabbing, boating and windsurfing. The park's beaches and picnic areas provide unparalleled views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge over the Chesapeake Bay as well as frequent passing of seagoing freighters and sailing regattas.

Wildlife viewing and bird watching are favorite pastimes for many park visitors. Sandy Point's location on the eastern flyway makes it an ideal location for viewing a large variety of woodland, marsh and migratory waterfowl. A park map is available at the park office.

Visit the Sandy Point State Park website hosted by Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
