Major Goals and Objectives:
The information
systems major strives to graduate students who have developed
1. An understanding
of the purpose, methods, and substance of information systems.
To fulfill this
goal, we expect students to
a. recognize how information systems has transformed business and management.
b. understand the strategic role of information systems in modern
organizations.
c. appreciate the ethical and social impacts of information systems.
d. understand the technical foundations of information systems, including
hardware, software, and networking concepts.
e. understand the management of data resources, in particular database
management.
f. understand the Internet and the World Wide Web and their importance in the
development of new business models.
g. understand various approaches to systems building, including a systems
development life cycle approach.
2. The skills of
analysis, communication, data manipulation, and information technology that
enable them to employ the method of information systems.
To fulfill this
goal, we expect students to
e. use a systems development life cycle approach to implement information
systems.
f. develop an ability to work effectively in a team as both a leader and a
follower.
g. effectively use the Internet for research.
