Course Description MEDUC 533 presents a comprehensive
overview of the Internet and the World Wide Web. Students will
study Internet technologies, the history and development of the
Internet, the use and operation of the World Wide Web, the
design and implementation of websites, markup languages such as
HTML and XML, and ethical and legal issues concerning the new
Internet technologies. Students will use MS FrontPage 2003 to
design, build and upload websites to the campus Information
Systems server. Remote access to a campus application server
will also be provided, so that students can work with MS
FrontPage and other HTML editors from home via the web.

How to Complete Course Assignments and Projects
- All assignments and project requirements are posted on
Blackboard in the Assignments section. Assignments and projects must be uploaded to
the Blackboard Digital Dropbox or the Information Systems Server (as directed in the
assignment description). Exams will be taken offline, in class.

Course Policies
- Class Attendance
Theory and practice work together in
MEDUC 533 to provide the
student with a comprehensive introduction to the Internet: and its use,
technology, design,
implementation and operation. Attendance at all lectures
and labs is required. Excused absences will be granted usually
only in the event of extreme illness or death. Unexcused
absences will result in the reduction of the students final
grade by two percentage points for each hour segment. (E.g.,
three
unexcused hour-segment absences (one class) would lower a final grade of 90 to
84, six unexcused hour-segment absences from 90 to 78).
- Assignments
All posted assignments must be
completed and uploaded to the Blackboard Digital Dropbox OR on the
Information Systems Server as directed in the assignment
description by
Midnight on
the date the assignment is due. Any homework that is uploaded
late will receive an automatic 10 % markdown on the grade for
that homework.
- Grade Progress and Help Outside of Class
All grades will be posted on the web portal. Voluntary group review and work sessions
can be held at times convenient to the class at the main campus
of Mount St. Mary's University. Students may also contact
Professor Yelovich at either telephone number on this syllabus,
at the office or at home. Students should not hesitate to
contact Professor Yelovich via telephone or email for help or
tutoring.
- Teamwork
Students may work together in their completion of any
and all homework assignments. However, students may not
work together on the Final Project. Collaboration with other
students on the final project will be considered cheating, and
will result in the award of a Zero for the project.
