Course Description

CS/IFSY 101 is a basic introduction to computer theory with an emphasis upon the uses of computer technology. Topic categories include Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications and Living Online. Computing Fundamentals covers hardware, software and operating systems. Key Applications include MS Word, Excel PowerPoint and Access. Living Online covers networks, the Internet, e-mail and the impact of computers on society. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be prepared to achieve the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3), an international standard for computer literacy.

Course Policies
  • All assignment are posted on the Assignments page of the Blackboard site for this course.
  • Late assignments will be accepted with a 50 % reduction in the grade earned.
  • Students may NOT collaborate on the Final Project. Discovery of collaboration on the Final Project will result in discipline according to the principles described in Mount St. Mary's Undergraduate Catalog.
  • Students may work ahead. Any homework assignments or the completed Final Project may be uploaded ahead of time. However, once an assignment or the Final Project has been uploaded, it may not be resubmitted.
