Introduction

Your Final Project is worth 640 points (50 % of your grade), because it allows you to demonstrate your learning from almost every other assignment in the course. BEGIN THIS ASSIGNMENT DURING THE FIRST OR SECOND WEEK OF CLASS! Since there is quite a bit of work involved, you should work on it piece by piece, bit by bit, throughout the entire semester. You should not do any of the work on this project during the last week of the semester. By then, everything should have been completed. Use your last week to gather, zip and upload the project by means of the Coursework upload function on the web portal. As always, contact me immediately and personally if you have any questions about anything in this comprehensive assignment.

The Final Project
  1. Computer Concepts.
    1. Write a 6-8 page paper on some aspect of Computer Ethics. Use any of the computer ethics books on reserve at the library for this course. Also use articles from academic journals that you find by means of one or more of the licensed databases on the library Catalog Links page (e.g., EBSCOhost, Lexis-Nexis, MathSciNet, etc.). Information from websites other than licensed database sources WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Again, NO INFORMATION FROM WEBSITES WILL BE ACCEPTED. You must use books or articles from academic journals only.
    2. Document and cite all sources according to APA format
    3. Add the following 3 pages to your 6-8 pages of text:
      1. A title page
      2. A works cited page according to APA format
      3. A Table of Contents with internal hyperlinks.
    4. Use 12 point Times New Roman font, double spacing; keep the default margin settings..
    5. Name your file <YourLastName>ResearchPaper.doc
    6. Upload the FINAL Version of your paper to http://turnitin.com by MIDNIGHT, August 3, 2007.
      1. Set up an account for yourself on Turnitin. Here's a hyperlink to a QuickStart document that will provide details.

        1. Class ID = 1902929

  2. Microsoft PowerPoint
    1. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of at least 10 slides on your Computer Concepts paper
    2. Pretend that you are going to present it to your classmates, so be sure to use colorful design backgrounds and fonts, graphics, animation, sounds and any other features you consider appropriate; more is better. Apply custom transitions.
    3. Name your PowerPoint presentation file  <YourLastName>Presentation.ppt
    4. Point value of this segment is 80 points

    3. Materials will be available on reserve in the library to help you with this (e.g., Grauer and Barber's comprehensive two-volume book on the MS Office Suite).
    4. Point Value of this segment is 110 points.

  5. Microsoft Access
    1. Create an Access database to keep track of your potential employers, their locations and the various positions you are considering. Create the following tables and populate them with at least 10-15 rows of data each. Be sure to look at the query requirements FIRST! Name your database <YourLastName>FinalProject.mdb. Follow these guidelines:
      1. Create a table of Potential Employers, consisting of at least 10 records (1 record per employer). Include fields for name, address, city, state (abbreviate), zip, telephone number, contact fields (first name, last name, email addresses, extensions, etc.), position codes, location codes, etc.
      2. Create a Positions table containing at least 15 fields of various positions open in your potential employers (some employers will offer more than 1 position of interest to you). Be sure to include data fields for salary, benefits (at least 5), location fields (locate them in major metro areas of the US, e.g., New York, Houston, Philadelphia, etc.), etc. Relate this table to the Potential Employee table by means of the position code field.
      3. Create a table of  Location Cost of Living. Relate this table to the positions table by means of location ID. Find the cost of living statistics in the library for major metropolitan areas. THIS WILL TAKE SOME RESEARCH TIME!
      4. Create a table of Recreational Activities available throughout the country (theater, symphony, opera, skiing, hunting, seaside, etc.) and relate this to the positions table by means of recreational activities ID. USE COMMON SENSE (e.g., Wichita will not provide seaside activities, etc.).
      5. Relate the tables and enforce referential integrity.
    2. Create 3 forms of your choice. At least one form should represent a parent table and one of the child tables (form and subform).
    3. Do the following 5 queries involving multiple tables:
      1. What positions allow you to earn maximum income?
      2. What positions allow you to earn maximum value in terms of cost of living?
      3. What positions allow you to earn maximum value in terms of cost of living and offer you the benefits you want?
      4. What positions allow you to earn maximum value in terms of cost of living, offer you the benefits you want and are located in metro areas that give you access to the recreational activities you desire?
      5. What positions allow you the benefits you desire, give you access to the recreational activities you desire, but pay too little money?
    4. Produce reports for EACH of the above queries. Use different designs, if possible. Add graphics and special fonts. More is better.
    5. Point Value of this segment is 170 points.
