Introduction

This course will prepare you to take the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exams for MS Word 2002 at the Core AND Expert levels. Subject content in all materials is organized exactly like that of the MOS certification exams themselves. A total of thirteen groups of skills, called Skill Sets, must be mastered on the MOS certification exams; the same Skill Sets are covered in this course. Skill Sets 1 to 6 represent the content of the Core level MOS certification exam; and, Skill Sets 7 to 13 represent the content of the Expert level MOS certification exam. You may use this course to prepare for both levels or for either level of MS Word 2002 MOS certification.

Explanations and Comments

Welcome to the Mount's Technology Training and Testing Center course on MS Word 2002! You will have access to all materials posted on the web portal for a period of three months. Once you set up your account on the Thomson Leaning server (by means of the SAM XP CD), you will have online access to the TOM and SAM programs for a period of six months. This will give you sufficient time to master the thirteen Skill Sets that make up the substance of the MOS MS Word 2002 certification exam.

Carefully examine the entire website linked from this page and from the Coursework section of the web portal. Look over all materials; download the data files from the Handouts section of the web portal; and, install the SAM XP CD on your PC. Detailed directions and step-by-step procedures are on the pages hyperlinked above. Think about the specific structure you will follow, as outlined in the alternate approaches section; or, come up with your own unique approach. Then, jump in and get started! Prepare, observe, practice and apply the skills on which you will be tested, and before you know it, you will be ready to pass the MOS MS Word 2002 certification exams. If you are local to the Mount, you may take the exams of your choice on the Mount's campus. If you are not local to the Mount, there are many other locations world-wide at which you can take the MOS certification exams. Refer to the Microsoft site itself for answers to frequently asked questions about the certification process.

In order to derive maximum benefit from the materials in this course, you must set aside adequate time each day to practice the individual skills that make up the Skill Sets on which you will tested. Discipline and perseverance are the two most important criteria for success; and, as with most learning experiences, remember that practice does indeed make perfect! Also remember, however, that we are here to help you. Use the discussion Forum on the web portal to initiate a discussion, and/or email us by means of the email link above to get help. We will respond in a timely manner, and we will make every reasonable effort to answer your questions and to assist you with any problems you might have in the course.
